Song of the Month: “It’s Feeling Like Christmas” by Joyce Cooling and Jay Wagner

I was hoping that we’d find a holiday song to select as our Song of the Month for December.  But I didn’t anticipate how quickly, or how easily, it would happen.  A week ago I had an email from the well-known contemporary jazz guitarist/singer Joyce Cooling asking if she could send me her new Christmas song, written with her musical partner,  Jay Wagner.  It was completely out of the blue, since Joyce wasn’t aware of our Song of the Month platform.

But as soon as I heard “It’s Feeling Like Christmas.” I knew it was exactly the kind of song we’re continually looking for.  A song that transcends any particular style or genre – a song that will always sound both contemporary and timeless.  Here’s what Joyce has to say about the writing of it:

“Some songs are born from a process – a reason why, or an impetus behind them propelling the music and lyrics.  This song was just a spontaneous unfolding.

“The holiday season is so cool when it’s the real deal.  Jay and I wanted to write a song that reflected that – something warm, something sweet.  It¹s Feeling Like Christmas came tumbling out spontaneously with no agenda except, “Happy Holidays.”  The song is a simple, heartfelt message of good will and cheer to all – hopefully a song that people will want to hear year after year.”

Joyce also adds that “50% of this holiday season’s artist proceeds from the download of  ‘It’s Feeling Like Christmas’ will go to N.A.M.I. ( the National Alliance on Mental Illness.)”
